hello. I’m Anne Van Wagener.

I’m a Southern California-based abstract artist.

My work begins with what lies beneath — layers of paint, paper, and found material that reveal a feeling slowly. Working in mixed media, I'm drawn to transparency as both a material and a metaphor: the way a glazed layer holds depth, the way torn edges and layered fragments tell a richer story than anything whole. I've learned to think of myself less as the maker and more as a channel. The work knows what it needs to become.

The work is abstract, a response to how it feels in the making. Color is where I feel most alive. I chase vibrant, unexpected combinations and try to carry that intensity onto the canvas. All in an attempt to hold those moments still long enough to see what's really there.
